GN Thermoforming Launches New High-Speed Robotic Stacker

CHESTER, Nova Scotia, December 13, 2012 – GN Thermoforming Equipment has introduced a new high-speed robotic stacker for its contact-heat, in-mold cut thermoformers. GN’s RSX robotic stacker delivers greater stacking flexibility and faster cycles for its GN3625DX, GN3021DX, and GN4532D thermoformers for the production of plastic packaging.

The new high-speed robotic stacker was developed in response to customer demand and was designed with their considerable input, according to Jerome Romkey, GN marketing manager. “The RSX robotic stacker provides superior performance at a competitive price,” said Romkey. The new unit stacks at a faster rate than the previous model and provides A/B and A/B/C stacking capabilities. The rotating head turns products 180 degrees for de-nesting and can stack any configuration that the thermoformer delivers, the company said.

Another important feature is that the x/y axis is positioned in the center of the sheet line unlike the previous system which had it positioned to the right. This results in more robust handling and transfer of parts at high speeds. The RSX robotic stacker is commercially available and the first unit was shipped in November.

GN’s DX series thermoformers are servo-driven machines that provide significantly greater cutting capacity of APET sheet for food packaging applications. The GN3021DX (30 x21 in. forming area) and GN3625DX (36 x 25 in forming area) models boast a more robust design with increased production capability.

GN Thermoforming Equipment Launches Novel Common-Edge Tooling for Major Scrap Reduction at NPE 2012

ORLANDO, Fla., April 1, 2012 – GN Thermoforming Equipment, a leading manufacturer of roll-fed, in-mold cut thermoforming machines, will showcase its new GN760 plug-assist thermoformer and unique common edge tooling technology that delivers major
scrap reduction. The machine demonstration is the primary focus of GN’s presentation at NPE 2012: The International Plastics Showcase, April 1-5, 2012 at the Orange County  Convention Center in Orlando.

At NPE (Booth 1683), GN Thermoforming Equipment’s GN760 plug-assist model makes its North American debut after an international roll-out at K 2010 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The new cut-in-place machine will run a 10-up common-edge die tool for PET meat trays
to demonstrate the machine’s low-scrap capability. Amid today’s rising cost of materials and the increased focus on sustainability, GN has developed innovative tooling technology which significantly reduces skeletal web scrap from approximately 30% to 18% when
compared to typical form-cut-stack machines.
“With the escalating price of resins today and the need to reduce environmental footprint, our new plug-assist thermoformer with novel
common-edge tooling gives processors an important edge to improve their profitability,” said Jerome Romkey, GN’s Marketing
Manager.

The new cut-in-place machine has a 762 mm x 533 mm (30 in x 21 in) forming area and incorporates many of the same components found in GN’s traditional machines. The new larger model expands GN’s line of plug-assist machines, meeting the demand for medium- to large-volume runs.
The machine’s significant scrap rate reduction is a major selling point with thermoformers, according to Romkey. Consequently, GN’s successful launch has resulted in machine sales to customers in Poland, Russia, South Africa, and soon in Mexico. Most of these thermoformers are producing custom food trays made of PET, high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), polypropylene (PP), and PE/PET laminate.
The GN760 also offers a 35% to 50% reduction in electrical consumption when compared to competitive equipment. The new model uses servo drives for plugging, material transport, stripping, and stacking. It also boasts a radiant infrared heating system with 60 zones and an electronic regeneration system which reduces energyuse, resulting in a savings of approximately $9000/yr.

GN Thermoforming Expands Workforce in Response to Strong Demand for New GN760 Plug-Assist Machine

ORLANDO, Fla., April 1, 2012 – GN Thermoforming Equipment, a leading manufacturer of roll-fed, in-mold cut thermoforming machines, has expanded its global workforce in Canada and Europe in response to strong growth for its new GN760 Plug-Assist Thermoformer. The company made the announcement at NPE 2012: The International Plastics Showcase, April 1-5, 2012 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

GN Thermoforming Equipment has added three new positions to its engineering department in Chester, Nova Scotia, and two to its sales staff in Jihlava, Czech Republic. The new personnel appointments are in direct response to the successful launch of the GN760 Plug-Assist Thermoformer which will make its North American debut at NPE after an international roll-out at K 2010 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

“The response to the new GN760 has been overwhelming and we’ve had to adjust our
resources to meet the new customer demands and the expanded growth,” said Jerome Romkey, GN’s Marketing Manager. He foresees continued growth for cut-in-place machinery as GN looks to expand its offering.
At NPE, the new cut-in-place machine will run a 10-up common-edge die tool for PET meat trays to demonstrate the machine’s low-scrap capability.
